Choral music is often dichotomized into the sacred and the secular. There is, however, a third category: deeply spiritual musical settings of nonreligious texts. Such music is not sacred, however it is not exactly secular in the usual sense.

James River Singers presents a concert exploring outstanding musical examples of the sacred, the secular, and "in-between." With texts by Robert Frost, Mary Coleridge, Johann Franck, and others. Featuring the music of Henry Purcell, J.S. Bach, Francis Poulenc, C.V. Stanford, and Randall Thompson.
